Horses Do I need to have my own horse? No, we will provide the horse. What kind of horse will I be riding? We have several different breeds, from Belgians to Arabians, and they are all trained in trail riding. Do I get to pick out my horse myself? Your horse will be chosen for you, according to your riding skill and size, with both your personality and the horse's personality matched as much as possible. Where do I get my horse? Your horse will be waiting for you at the campground. Who picks my horse out? Our trail managers have over forty years of experience with horses and will pick the best mount for you. Can I bring my own horse? Due to herd dynamics (pecking order) and the various riding skills of other participants, we must limit the Horse Lovers Weekend to our own herd for safety's sake. We will be having some open rides - contact us for more info. Tack & Equipment What if I don't have a saddle? Saddles and all necessary tack are provided. What kind of saddle will I be using? During your weekend, you may try a Western saddle, English saddle, Austrailian saddle, and a bareback pad. Do I need a riding helmet? Helmets are recommended for safety. I don't have any riding pants or boots, do I need to buy some? Pants with raised or heavy inseams can become very uncomfortable on a long ride. Avoid these. No inseam or small flat seams are best. Sweats are comfy in cool weather. Boots should be comfortable and preferably lace-on. Sports shoes with excessive tread are not safe because the tread can get stuck in the stirrups. If you are unsure bring several pair and we will help you choose a safe pair. Loafers may fall off. No sandals. What kind of clothes should I wear? Close fitting shirts that tuck in are best. Pants that have fitted legs are good - bell bottoms can get caught on protruding objects. A helmet is recommended for safety. Camping What if I don't like camping? There are Bed & Breafasts nearby (Wildwood Santuary, The Inn Between the Lakes), motels, etc. for those who enjoy their comforts! What if I don't have a tent or an RV? Horse Lovers Weekends are our specialty but we do have smaller packages available and will do our best to accomodate you.. Call us with your particular needs and we will find a ride to fit!
